Diwali parking and guest-vehicle notice for your society
Over Diwali most societies see more cars at the gate than on any other week of the year. Relatives visit, sweet boxes and gifts arrive by the dozen, decorators and caterers need to unload, and part of the podium or ground may be closed for the celebration. Without a plan, visitor cars end up blocking residents' slots, driveways and, worst of all, the fire tender route. A short parking notice, agreed with the security team, avoids most of the arguments.
Plan it with security first
Before you write anything, sit with the security supervisor and facility manager for fifteen minutes and agree the basics:
- Where guests park. Identify visitor slots, any spare area that can be used for the festival days, and what happens when they are full (for example, guests park outside and walk in, or residents host guests in their own slot).
- What stays clear. Fire tender access, the main driveway, ramps, entry and exit gates, hydrant points and ambulance access must never be blocked, whatever the occasion.
- Set-up days. If part of the parking or podium is needed for decoration, stage or catering, fix the dates and times and which slots are affected.
- Gate process. How guests are logged: through your visitor app, a phone call to the flat, or a register. Agree it now so security is not improvising when there is a queue at the gate.
- Deliveries. Where delivery bikes and vans wait, and whether large deliveries are asked to come at quieter hours.
Keep cars away from crackers
Many societies ask residents not to burst crackers in parking areas or near vehicles, and to use a designated area instead. If your society has decided this, repeat it in the parking notice and, where possible, choose a cracker area away from parked cars. Residents who park in open areas may want to use car covers or park in a covered slot during the festival nights; that is their choice, but a reminder helps.
Wording that works
Lead with the dates the arrangement applies to, then the three things residents need: where their guests should park, what must stay clear, and any slots closed for set-up. Ask residents to pre-register expected guests if your gate system supports it. Keep the tone welcoming: guests are part of the festival, and the notice is there to make their arrival easier, not to make them feel unwanted.
If your society has any rule about towing, clamping or fines, refer to the bye-law or the general body decision rather than inventing a penalty in the notice. And share the security desk number so residents can sort out a blocked car quickly rather than by honking.
After the festival
Once the celebration area is cleared, post a one-line update that the normal parking arrangement is back. Ask security to note any recurring problems (a slot always blocked, a gate always jammed) so the committee can fix them for next year.
