Diwali lighting and electricity safety notice for your society

During Diwali, almost every flat puts up serial lights, and the committee usually lights up the gate, lobby and facade too. The result is a few predictable problems: overloaded sockets, extension boards running across corridors, cheap lights left on all night, and the common meter tripping on the busiest evening. Fire departments warn every year about electrical short circuits during the festival. A short notice before Diwali (Sunday, 8 November 2026) sets simple rules for residents and for the society's own decoration.

What the notice should cover

Checklist for the committee

Planning aid, not legal advice. This guide is a planning aid for society committees, not legal advice. Rules on firecrackers, noise, fire safety and use of common areas are set by courts, state governments, police and municipal authorities, and by your own society's bye-laws. They change, sometimes every year. Always check the current official order for your city before you post a notice.
