Diwali mela stall registration notice for your society

A Diwali mela, with residents selling food, diyas, candles, clothes and handmade gifts, is one of the most popular society events of the season. It also produces the most questions: how much a stall costs, who gets the good spots, whether cooking is allowed. A registration notice that answers these up front saves the committee days of messages. Diwali 2026 is Sunday, 8 November, so most societies hold the mela on the weekend before, around 31 October to 1 November.

Checklist for the committee

Planning aid, not legal advice. This guide is a planning aid for society committees, not legal advice. Rules on firecrackers, noise, fire safety and use of common areas are set by courts, state governments, police and municipal authorities, and by your own society's bye-laws.
